What is a Social Sports League?

Imagine you’ve had a terrible day at the office – your boss yelled at you for something you didn’t do and you spilled coffee all over a TPS report.  You rush out of the drab building and within minutes you’re charging toward Sunnyside Park.  Weaving traffic while loosening your tie, you’re nearly dressed by the time you arrive.  Slipping into your cotton Beehive SSC jersey and greet your best friends with high fives and pounds.  Ten minutes later you’re at bat with a woman on second base and two outs.  Whomp, the ball sails over the second baseman scoring a run and putting your team in front for good.  Fast forward 45 minutes and you’re at the bar enjoying a $1 PBR, $5 burgers and joke after joke about how your pants fell down rounding first base on your RBI kick.  Fun, Community, Competition. That’s Beehive SSC.

How much does it cost?

All sports cost the exact same to play! We have three registration periods for all of our sports: Early Bird, Regular and Late.  Early Bird is almost always $55, Regular is $65 and Late is $75.  We’re all about community so $3 of everyone’s registration is made as a donation to Boys and Girls Club of SLC! So far we’ve given over $5000!

What is a team captain responsible for?

Team Captains are the heart and soul of Beehive SSC and we know it. Team Captains spread the word, recruit players, register, name their team and serve as the main point of contact with Beehive SSC.  Thinking about stepping up to be captain?  Our ideal captain is capable of helping in the following ways:

  • Pick up and distributes new shirts each season to the team and also attend the preseason captains meeting.
  • Ensure that all team players have signed up and paid before the season begins.
  • Encourages a positive team spirit, it’s a game after all.
  • Sends weekly emails to excite players and gauge in anyone won’t be able to attend.
  • Backs up the calls of Beehive Social Sports Club referees.
  • Contacts us no later than noon on the day of a game if their team doesn’t have enough players that week.
  • The reward for your hard work? Captains play for FREE! **

** NOTE: Captains play FREE for all large team sports. For smaller (2-3 player) sports such as Cornhole, Skeeball, Bocce, etc. the price to join is less and their are less captain responsibilities, so therefore all team members pay the same price.

Are team rosters posted?

Team rosters are not posted publicly.  They are sent out to the entire team shortly before the season begins.  Feel free to contact us and we’ll let you know which team your buddy is playing on.

Can I change my team name after the season starts?

Team names may be changed up until week 3 of any season.  Let us know what you’d like it to be and consider it done!

Can I join if I don’t have a team?

Yes!  To us that means you’re a Free Agent. Whether you’re an individual or a small group looking to link up we promise to work with Free Agents to make sure your placed with a team that you feel comfortable with and more importantly have fun with.  Follow the instructions for Individual and Small Group registration and we’ll be in touch shortly.

How do I register?

Ready to register? Click over to the registration page, under Members and fill out the registration form that best describes you (Captain, Individual part of a team, or Individual without a team).

Regardless of registration type you’ll get an email from the league within 48 hours with next steps and payment instructions. Shortly before your season, we’ll email you again with season information, including a link to the schedule, sponsor bar location, and anything else you might need to know before the season starts.

Upon registration add the sport you’d like to play to your “cart” and then checkout.  You’ll be directed to our secure online payment platform to enter your payment information (email us if that’s not possible for you and we’ll figure something out). We have had all of this professional installed and guarantee that all your information is secure (we never see the credit card info and we don’t give away or sell your personal information under any circumstances).

After you register, you’re a member of the Club!  Club members get 7-9 weeks of games, access to food and drink specials at our sponsor bars/restaurants, team t-shirt, all necessary game equipment, paid referees for all games that require officiating, online schedules and standings, coverage on our blog, The Buzz, and a place in our community :)

Registering as a Team Captain:

  1. Go to the registration page and add the sport of your choice to your “cart”
  2. Proceed to “checkout” and fill in the information on the right, be sure to mark “I’m a team captain…”
  3. If you are captain for a large team sports, please us the provided discount code to sign up for free. Captains for smaller (2-3 player) sports should still pay their fee.
  4. Once we receive your registration (almost instantly) we will contact you within 24 hours to tell you what’s next.

Your team is now entered into our system.  After you’re contacted you will need to pass along a registration link to your teammates so they fill out the form (second “+”).  The most important piece of info to make sure they’re linked to your team is your name. If you have trouble adding a player to your team, shoot us an email and we will gladly help move the player to your roster.

Registering as an Individual with a team:

  1. Go to the registration page and add the sport of your choice to your “cart”
  2. Proceed to “checkout” and fill in the information on the right, be sure to mark “I’m an individual and already…”
  3. Pay
  4. Once we receive your payment (almost instantly) we will contact you within 24 hours to tell you what’s next.

Registering as an Individual/Small Group without a team:

  1. Go to the registration page and add the sport of your choice to your “cart”
  2. Proceed to “checkout” and fill in the information on the right, be sure to mark “I’m an individual and do not…”
  3. Pay
  4. Once we receive your payment (almost instantly) we will contact you within 24 hours to tell you what’s next.

Corporate Teams:

Starting a corporate team is the same as creating a regular team. If you have any other specific questions, contact us!

What happens if I miss a game?

If you are unable to attend a game, be sure to let your Team Captain know so they can make sure enough of your teammates will be able to play.

If your team forfeits a game, it will count as a loss in the standings of your team.

What do I get if my team wins?

Every league we offer includes playoffs and awards.  Generally playoffs are single-elimination tournaments taking place on the last week(s) of the season involving the top teams in the standings.

There are awards for first place teams in each division.

  • 1st Place team in Social wins a belt (WWF style).
  • 1st Place team in Super Social wins some sort of alcohol themed prize (shotski, shot glasses, or something else we come up with that season.)… Plus the adoration of all of your friends and family.

How old do I need to be?

We prefer players to be 21 and older since we are sponsored by a beer company and we encourage teams to go to the sponsor bar after games, but we allow players over 18 to play.

There is no maximum age.  The average age of our league is mid to late 20’s, but we also have lots of players in their 30’s, 40’s and even 50’s.  Contact us if you have questions!

Can I bring a substitute to the game?

We understand that, despite your best efforts, registered members may not be able to attend every game.  That’s why we allow teams to bring substitute players for any of our leagues.  If your team is low on players one week, you may invite players from another team within your division to join you for the week; nobody likes a forfeit.

A substitute can play up to 2 games, after that they must pay and join the regular team roster.  All substitutes must fill out a registration form and sign the liability waiver so our insurance company is happy :)

Since we now require that all team members wear a Beehive t-shirt, if you plan on using a substitute player from outside of the league, you need to make arrangements to let that player borrow a Beehive t-shirt.

There are no substitutes allowed in the playoffs.

What's the deal with team t-shirts?

Only registered players may play in our games (unless using a resubstitute player – see above).  We know you’re registered when you wear your shirt to the game.

Every player must wear their league shirt to participate in all regular games and playoff games.  No shirt, no play.

All shirts will be handed out at the Sponsor Bar less than one week before the season starts. The time and place where shirts will be given out will be emailed to captains at least one week prior to the date.

It is the captain’s responsibility (or someone else from the team) to come and get shirts. Shirts will only be given out to registered players on the team.

  • All players registered three weeks before the league starts are guaranteed to receive the correct size league shirt.
  • All players registered within three weeks but before the captains shirt pick up will receive a shirt, and it’ll probably be the right size but isn’t guaranteed.
  • All players registered after the shirt pick up will receive their shirt the third week of the season. We will bring it to them at their game.
  • All players who register after the season starts will not receive a shirt (unless we have one leftover in our inventory) and will receive a $5 discount on registration (unless we end up giving them a shirt).

Can we customize our team t-shirts?

Shirt customization is allowed.  Feel free to add words and images (names, nicknames, numbers, team logos, images).  You may also bedazzle, attach patches, tie-dye, and redesign by cutting the fabric.

Whatever customization you’re planning, make sure you abide by the following rules:

  • No company names or logos unless expressing approved.
  • No offensive language.
  • No design that obscures or alters the Beehive Sport and Social Club logo unless it looks really cool.
  • No removal of the Beehive logo or sponsor logo.

Can I get a refund?

All registrations are final.  When you register, we custom order a shirt in your size, take you into consideration as we create evenly distributed teams, and even turn other potential players away if we sell out the division.  Your registration matters! T-shirts are ordered 2 weeks before the start of the season, so be sure to register on time, so that we can ensure you have the correct t-shirt size.
